The New Zealand Freeski Open are the first major freestyle contest of the season. As the premier freeski event in the southern hemisphere, it attracts not only the best skiers from down under but also some of the biggest stars from North America and Europe, and is traditionally a proving ground for up-coming rippers.

Innsbruck-based crew “Legs of Steel” will release its first film, “The Pilot”, this fall. The group of four, including two Germans and one Englishman teamed up last season to leave their mark on the European freeski scene.

After a long season it is time to look back, and there are few sports that have as many aspects to review as freeskiing. But in every which way you look at it, ATOMIC is freeskiing’s most successful brand in 2009/10!

The AFP season 2009/2010 has concluded and two ATOMIC Team riders top the discipline Rankings of the Association of Freeskiing Professionals. Jossi Wells added the Superpipe Title to his AFP overall world championship and Andreas Håtveit become AFP Big Air Champion.

ON SATURDAY, THE VIDEO AWARDS OF THE JON OLSSON SUPER SESSIONS WERE PRESENTED IN ÅRE. TEAM CANADA LEAD BY ATOMIC TEAM RIDER IAN COSCO TOOK THE FIRST PRICE IN THE MOST IMPORTANT VIDEO CONTEST OF THE FREESKI SEASON, TEAM NORWAY WITH ANDREAS HÅTVEIT GOT SECOND.

NORWEGIAN ANDREAS HÅTVEIT WON FREESKIING’S MOST COVETED BIG AIR TITLE, THE JON OLSSON INVITATIONAL IN SWEDEN. ATOMIC TEAM MATE ELIAS AMBÜHL FINISHED THIRD IN FRONT OF AN ENTHUSIASTIC CROWD IN ÅRE.

JOSSI WELLS WAS ANNOUNCED THE AFP OVERALL WORLD CHAMPION EARLIER THIS WEEK BY THE ASSOCIATION OF FREESKIING PROFESSIONALS. THE ATOMIC RIDER CLINCHED THE TITLE ALREADY TWO EVENTS BEFORE THE END OF THE SEASON DUE TO HIS OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES IN ALL THREE FREESTYLE DISCIPLINES.

A record number of 82 riders from 16 nations gathered in Val Thorens last weekend at the finals of The North Face Ski Challenge to compete for the ultimate prize: win the overall tour title and a two-year pro rider sponsor contract with ATOMIC and The North Face.

The Norwegian King of Freeskiing reveals another skill of his incredible bag-of-tricks. At the amazing Backyard Battle event in his hometown of Sudndalen, Andreas Håtveit was a perfect host for the vibrant Scandinavian freestyle scene.

ATOMIC TEAM RIDER JOSSI WELLS CLAIMED A GREAT THIRD PLACE IN THE SLOPESTYLE CONTEST AT THE WINTER X GAMES EUROPE IN ONE OF THE TIGHTEST COMPETITIONS EVER. HIS TEAM-MATES ANDREAS HÅTVEIT AND ELIAS AMBÜHL FINISHED SIXTH AND SEVENTH.

Beautiful Alagna in Italy hosted the last qualifier for the big finals of the North Face Ski Challenge presented by GORE-TEX. Five riders took their chance and grabbed the tickets to Val Thorens, France!

A record number of 70 riders competed at The North Face Ski Challenge presented by GORE-TEX in Chamonix for the remaining spots for the finals in Val Thorens, France.

Last weekend, Åre in Sweden welcomed the North Face Ski Challenge and a record number of 66 riders with gusty winds and polar temperatures. Although the young ski talents faced the harshest conditions on this year’s Ski Challenge tour, they did not lose their enthusiasm and kept their tails up.

Last weekend The North Face Ski Challenge presented by GORE-TEX had its first stop ever in Hemsedal, Norway. The young participants impressed the organizers with freeride skills above the average level of many skiers and made this weekend a truly exciting one!

LAST SATURDAY MATTHIAS HAUNHOLDER WON THE BIG MOUNTAIN FIEBERBRUNN. THE 30-YEAR-OLD TYROLEAN PREVAILED AT THE 3-STAR WORLD FREERIDE QUALIFIER IN HIS HOME RESORT, WHICH IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT BIG MOUNTAIN EVENTS IN THE EASTERN ALPS THIS YEAR.

The ATOMIC Freeski Team picked up all but one awards when freeskiing’s most important event series concluded in Mt. Snow.

A FIFTH PLACE AT THE FINAL DEW TOUR STOP IN MT. SNOW SECURED JOSSI WELLS THE OVERALL SUPERPIPE TROPHY. THE 21-YEAR-OLD COMPLETED THE TRIUMPH OF THE ATOMIC FREESKI TEAM FOLLOWING THE TITLE OF HIS TEAMMATE ANDREAS HÅTVEIT IN SLOPESTYLE EARLIER THAT WEEKEND.

A second place at Mt. Snow, Vermont, secured Andreas Håtveit the Overall Dew Tour victory in Slopestyle. A series of three podiums in three events, including a win in Breckenridge, Colorado, earned the ATOMIC team rider the coveted trophy of freeskiing’s most important event series.

After an action-packed weekend at the 14th Winter X Games in Aspen, the ATOMIC Freeski Team has made its presence felt on a scale as wide as Freeskiing itself.

Two weeks before the Winter X-Games in Aspen, there is one skier to watch out for: ATOMIC team rider Jossi Wells! This past weekend the young lad from New Zealand won the Superpipe and placed fifth in Slopestyle at the Winter Dew Tour’s second stop in Snowbasin.

The ATOMIC Freeski Team signs prominent backcountry freestyle star Sage Cattabriga-Alosa and therewith strengthens its leading role in freeskiing. The American is excited to join the team and to ride on ATOMIC skis from now on.

Current King of Style, Andreas Håtveit, has just won the slopestyle competition during the first stop of the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge on Sunday. The day before it was Jossi Wells, who finished second in the superpipe comp, fixing the reign of the ATOMIC Freeski Team amongst the world’s elite.

High-flyer Andreas Håtveit wins the crown at the King of Style in Stockholm. With a stylish and perfectly landed Double Cork 1080° Double Mute Grab the ATOMIC Teamrider claimed first place in the fascinating Big Air finals.

Following a fantastic third-place-finish at the Barcelona Snow Show big air this weekend, it can be officially announced: ATOMIC youngster Elias Ambühl from Switzerland has truly established himself as a world-class freestyle skier!

Its almost impossible to surpass ATOMIC freeskier Andreas Håtveit these days. Following his third-place-finish at Europe’s season opening event in Zürich just a few weeks ago, the Norwegian ace repeated this success last weekend in the tremendous finals of the London Freeze Freestyle Ski Big Air.

Europe’s and North America’s winter is just about to start, whereas it's coming to an end in New Zealand: With episodes 7 & 8 the first "Winter of Wells"-series closes the season for the southern hemisphere, while the guys are already sojourning in the snow flurry of the northern hemisphere.
